?Since opening the doors to its brand new sport facility this summer, Brooksby Melton College has enjoyed an ever building reputation for providing some of the very best training and equipment possible, and has seen visits from a number of professional level sports people. Earlier this month BMC welcomed the Argentina national rugby team, affectionately known as Los Pumas, for three days of training ahead of a testimonial match with the Leicester Tigers, as part of their Rugby World Cup training. Tigers player Marcos Ayerza was given the testimonial match after 9 years of service to the team.

With a college wide investment of £27.7 million, BMC has built a brand new sport centre at the Brooksby campus, including a full sized, multi-functional sport hall, a sport science lab, strength and conditioning gym, and IT equipped teaching spaces for students to complete theory work. The sport science lab is equipped with the latest technology, including Fitmate direct gas analysis, Sportstec performance analysis software, GPS tracking units and 6 watt bikes, allowing students to learn about, and take part in testing the performance of athletes.

The strength and conditioning gym contains 5 Olympic weight lifting platforms, fully equipped with pumper plates, dumbbells, kettlebells and pull up rigs, giving students everything they need to improve their own strength and performance, as well as learn the skills and techniques needed to train others to improve their physical strength.

In addition to this, BMC has developed a full size floodlit 3G football pitch, allowing students and sport teams to train outdoors at the college all year round.

Argentina made full use of the facilities over the three days, training both inside, using the strength and conditioning gym, and outside both on the 3G pitch and full sized rugby pitch. Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Argentina Pumas, Keir Wenham-Flatt, commented:

“We were lucky enough to use the facilities at Brooksby during the first week of our Rugby World Cup tour to prepare for our match against Leicester Tigers. The school were hugely welcoming and accommodating to us, and made it extremely easy for us to focus on our job of preparing the players. Everything a team needs is here: a top quality gym, physio and medical space, plenty of space for players and an excellent playing surface. I would recommend Brooksby as a training facility to anyone without hesitation, more so prospective students- to train here as a student would have been a dream for me!”

In addition to working with Argentina, BMC also works closely with Leicester Tigers, with the Tigers Community Team running the BMC Rugby Academy this year, as well as Mansfield Town Football Club, with whom the college runs a number of football focused sport programmes as well as hosting the clubs First team over the summer. Sport Programme Team Manager Martin Foster explained:

“It was great to see an International Rugby team using our new facilities, following on from Mansfield Town’s first team staying at the college for their first week of pre-season training. To see how the coaches organised and ran each session, and the detail that they went into for their pre-game preparations was excellent.
