You can't have a game without a referee - and that's especially true at the top level where New Zealand officials are doing their bit to ensure that the world's top teams can play the games their coaches, players and supporters expect.
New Zealand has a small professional referee population earning a high proportion of appointments, which is great recognition for their quality and refereeing is now a year-round occupation, with growth in the number of teams and tournaments requiring refs to travel all around the globe. New Zealand officials are in action almost all year round, right around the world from Sao Paolo to London, Tokyo, Sydney and Palmerston North.
New Zealand Referees are regularly selected for both men's and women's fifteens and sevens matches at international level including key tournaments such as Rugby World Cups, the Commonwealth Games, British and Irish Lions tours, Investec Rugby Championship and Six Nations. There are also five New Zealand officials involved in Investec Super Rugby as part of the SANZAR panel. After retirement many referees have continued to be associated with the game as referee coaches and reviewers.
